Sri Renuka Devi was the wife of sage Jamadagni and the mother of Parasurama, one of the ten incarnations of Vishnu. Goddess Renuka was a devout goddess and was known for her chastity and devotion to her husband. Many devotees from different regions come to the temple to worship Renuka-Yellamma during the Bharata full moon, Kartika month. After marrying sage Jamadagni, Devi Renuka is believed to have settled in this place. This temple is considered as Shakti Peetha as a holy place.Mother Renuka (wife of sage Jamadagni) was beheaded by his own son Parasurama. Parasurama received a boon from sage Jamadagni and endured rebirth.
