Kollur "Sri Kshetra" in Udupi district of Karnataka state is one of the seven abodes of salvation created by Parasurama. Sri Kshetra was established by Adi Shankaracharya. It is the abode of worshiping Goddess Shakti. Devi Mookambike is worshiped as Shakti deity here. Kaumasura, a monster or demon known as Muka, was killed in this field. Mookambika is the primordial Shakti and the linga incorporates "Mahakali", Mahalakshmi" and Maha Saraswati" on its left side. Adishakti in this form can be found only here. In Udbhavalinga form, Mookambike has Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva conjoined on the right side. A golden chain is dividing this Jyotirlinga into left and right parts. The left side of the linga represents Shakti and the right represents Shiva. Adi Shankara installed the idol of the Goddess in the "Srichakra Yantra". At 5.00 PM the "Nirmalya Puja" takes place and at that time devotees have the opportunity to see the Swayambhu Linga. Trikala Puja is performed daily in the temple. Thousands of devotees visit the temple to seek solace from their problems, pains and troubles or to offer their religious vows or to enjoy the natural scenic beauty of the surroundings.
